How to Use the Safe and Unsafe Railgun Modes
The Railgun is a powerful, late-game support weapon Strategem that is unlocked at level 20. This unique gun features two modes that can be toggled between -- safe and unsafe. While the unsafe mode can deal devastating damage, it also brings some deadly consequences if you happen to charge the weapon too long. Thankfully, we've got a quick and comprehensive guide that details everything you need to know about using the safe and unsafe railgun modes in Helldivers 2.
How to Use the Safe and Unsafe Railgun Modes
As mentioned in our Best Stratagems guide, the Railgun is a firm favorite amongst the community, as it has the power to penetrate through armor and even deal one-shot kills against the likes of Hulks when aiming for their head.
When equipping the Railgun, you can toggle between two unique modes -- Safe and Unsafe -- by holding square on PS5.
While using the Railgun in safe mode, it'll charge up and use approximately 50% of its power and has no risk of inflicting damage on you. With that said, safe mode still provides excellent damage against bots and bugs.
When switching to unsafe mode, you'll have the ability to hold down the trigger and charge up the weapon for longer to deal far more devastating shots. But, should you charge it for too long (100% of its meter), it'll wipe you out in one swift explosion.
Now, the key to using the Railgun in unsafe mode is to switch to first person while aiming down the sights, as this will provide a clear view of the weapon's charge meter. As the weapon charges up to approximately 75-80% of its meter, release the trigger and fire the shot, as this provides plenty of wriggle room to avoid taking any unnecessary damage from the weapon while still dealing significant damage.
