There was a lot of lights and sirens Thursday afternoon in western Delaware County with two fire calls that prompted a heavy response, though in the end were apparently minor incidents.

Firefighters were dispatched to the 500 block of Applewood Circle in Upper Chichester Township for a basement fire.

First crews arrived on the scene about 5:50 p.m. and started laying hoses but also reported there was nothing evident at the house. Once inside, firefighters reported a smoke condition and the smell of something burning in the basement.

They began ventilating and looking for what might be burning, putting the fire under control at 6:08 p.m., with the likelihood that it was mulch that was burning.

While those crews were on scene, they were advised of a dispatch to Roosevelt Community Center, 464 S Old Middletown Road in Middletown Township, for an unspecified fire.

After a few minutes, crews were looking for an HVAC unit that was smoking. That scene was declared under control at 6:09 p.m.
