VOTE: The News-Press Athlete of the Week presented by Babcock Ranch for Feb. 26-March 2
Each week, The News-Press staff will select one finalist in each high school sport. Nominees are derived from scores and stats emailed by Lee County’s coaches during the week to sports@news-press.com. Readers can then vote in the online poll to determine who the Athlete of the Week will be.
The poll will be posted at news-press.com each Monday, and voting will end at 10 a.m. Thursday each week.

Last week, Mariner basketball player Corey Hunter won with 54% of the vote.
The winner will be announced on the @newspresssports Instagram page and on Twitter at @nphssports. The winning athlete will receive a shirt courtesy of BSN Sports.

Here are the nominees for Feb. 26-March 2
Girls basketball
Jadah Toombs, ECS
Toombs posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, along with 5 steals and 2 assists, to help the Sentinels defeat Central Florida Christian 57-46 and win the program's first state championship in Class 2A on Thursday.
Boys wrestling
Camren French, Mariner
French won the Class 2A state title at 126 pounds, defeating Clay's Rylan Herrera by 8-2 decision in the final and finishing his season with a 54-1 record on Saturday.
Girls wrestling
Blanca Cespedes, Riverdale
Cespedes finished in fourth place in the 125-pound weight class at the Girls State Wrestling championships, tying for the best result in Southwest Florida and finishing her season with a 31-11 record on Saturday.
Boys track
Dorian Mallary, Lehigh
Mallary was the champion with winning sprints in the 100 and 200-meter dashes at the CSN Invitational on Saturday.
Girls track
Grace Coggins, SFCA
Coggins came in first place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.06 at the CSN Invitational on Saturday. She also came in fifth in the 100 meters.
Baseball
Joey Lawson, Bishop Verot
Lawson went 3-for-4 at the plate with 3 doubles and 5 RBI in wins against Gulliver Prep and Imagine School last week. He also took four walks and reached the plate four times.
Softball
Tori Fulcher, Fort Myers
Fulcher went 5-for-6 with 3 doubles and 4 RBI in two wins against North Port and Bonita Springs last week.
Boys lacrosse
Stirling Spinks, Cypress Lake
Spinks scored eight goals with one assist in the Panthers' first win of the year after defeating Riverdale 10-6 on Wednesday.
Boys tennis
Nicholas Snow, Estero
Snow earned wins in doubles and singles, helping the Wildcats to defeat Mariner 5-2 on Friday.
