20-year-old Matthew Figueroa Hernandez was in handcuffs on Monday at the Kent County courthouse.

Court documents said he allegedly carjacked Edward Doucette on Pontiac Avenue Friday morning.

Police responded to the scene to find a man in the middle of the road.

"They located an elderly gentleman who was bleeding from the face, he had been struck in the face punched and kicked by the defendant, who was not on scene. He had left with the gentleman's car," Special Assistant Attorney General Douglas Ciullo said.

Figueroa Hernandez was located hours later in North Kingstown with the car.

He's facing felony charges including robbery of an occupant of a motor vehicle and assault on a person over 60 resulting in serious bodily injury.

"A witness indicated that he had taken a knife prior to the assault and that was a kitchen knife. A pocketknife was located on the defendant," Ciullo said.

New video from neighbors showed the moments before the alleged crime. The suspect stormed out of the house.

Some in the area were woken up by screaming.

The neighbors told NBC 10 the suspect and his sister got into a fight before he waved down Doucette.

Figueroa Hernandez is also accused of assaulting his girlfriend and sister during the ordeal.

The suspect is being held without bail.

He was also ordered to not have any contact with the victims.
