The livestock show and county fair is back in town — along with the music and rodeo.
The annual Walker County Fair & Rodeo returns Thursday with plenty of thrilling rides, fair food, exhibits and midway games. It runs through Saturday, April 6 at the Walker County Fairgrounds, located at 3925 Highway 30 in Huntsville.
Activities kick off Thursday, March 28, with PRCA events taking place throughout the day. The Parade will take place at 7 p.m. in downtown Huntsville along the traditional route. Line-up will begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday on 19th Street.
General admission to Fair and Rodeo will open at 4 p.m. Friday. The Special Kids Rodeo will take place at 4 p.m. Friday in the Main Building by special invitation only.
The Acoustic Cafe will provide live entertainment from 4:30 to 6:45 p.m. The carnival will open its gates at 5 p.m. and close at midnight. The first performance of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) rodeo will at 7 p.m. Friday.
The Rodeo Kick Off Dance will be held from 9 p.m. to midnight in the Main Building.
Saturday allows general admission to the fair grounds with opening ceremonies kicking off events and the highlight of the day, including the crowning of the Walker County Fair Queen at noon.
Other events surrounding the carnival include a children’s petting zoo, livestock shows and the barbecue cook-off Friday, April 1.
The Barbecue Cook Off will take place on April 5-6, with entries in brisket, chicken, ribs, pulled pork, beans, chili, dessert, margaritas, and kids.
