Bilingual Game Day event to be held in Solana Beach

City of Solana Beach Parks and Recreation in cooperation with Solana Beach Community Connections (SBCC) invites all to a Games Day Thursday, April 11 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. This complimentary event will take place at La Colonia Community Cener at 715 Valley Avenue, Solana Beach.

‘Promenade in Normandy’: Joseph Le Dieu’s Drawings Exhibition to be held in Solana Beach

The Alliance Française San Diego invites all to embark on a journey through the delicate drawings of Joseph Le Dieu at the exhibition, “Promenade in Normandy,” hosted at the Once Upon A Frame gallery in Solana Beach. Enjoy Le Dieu’s creations from April 11 to April 25, Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with an opening reception on April 11, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Easter events

Solana Beach Children’s Spring Festival and Egg Hunt

La Colonia Community Park will be filled with hundreds of families on Saturday, March 30 to celebrate the annual Children’s Spring Festival and Egg Hunt from 10 a.m. to noon. The 10:30 a.m. egg hunt is limited to children in third grade or younger. The free event will also include games, fun jumps, crafts, pictures with the Spring Bunny and piñatas. Refreshments served include lemonade, coffee, popcorn and cookies. Participants are being asked to bring their own basket or decorative bag to collect the goodies.

Carmel Valley’s Spring Egg Hunt

The city will host the Hoppy and Hunting Spring Eggscapade at Carmel Creek Neighborhood Park on March 30 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The egg hunt is broken down by age groups every 20 minutes starting with the youngest hunters at 10 a.m. The hunt will be followed by a magic show at noon. There will also be face painters, a DJ, arts and crafts, an obstacle course and jumper.

The park is located at 4260 Carmel Center Road.

Grace Point Church presents community egg hunt, family fun

Grace Point Church in Carmel Valley is putting on their annual Easter Egg Hunt from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 30. The fun family event features a petting zoo, games, face painting, a jumpy and mega-slide and more. Visit gracepointsd.com for more details.

North Coast and Del Mar Units of Rady Auxiliary to hold ‘Date Night for a Cause’

The 12th Annual “Date Night for a Cause” at the Belly Up will be double the fun this year hosted by the North Coast and Del Mar Units of Rady Auxiliary. This event is a fun opportunity for couples and friends to gather, dance and enjoy live music from “Atomic Groove and the Fly Girlz,” bid on live auctions presented by Clint Bell Productions, and a silent auction and wine wall. Net proceeds benefit “The Healing Environment” at Rady Children’s Hospital, promoting physical and emotional well-being through innovation in design, art and youth programs, and pet therapy visits, according to a news release.

Registration is now open for FACE Foundation’s Bags & Baubles 2024 benefit event to be held on Sunday, April 28, 1 p.m.-5 p.m. at a Rancho Santa Fe estate.

The Country Friends Spring Luncheon benefit

Batiquitos Lagoon speaker to discuss the natural history of coyotes

Batiquitos Lagoon will hold a presentation on April 13 at 10 a.m. by Project Wildlife rehabilitation specialist Kelly Wallace on the natural history of coyotes. How they are rehabilitated, their interaction with other predators, and how best to co-exist with them. This free, family event is interesting for both adults and kids, age 12 and older. Brandeis San Dieguito Chapter sponsors Book and Author luncheon

The San Dieguito Chapter of the Brandeis National Committee will host a Book and Author luncheon on Thursday, April 4 at 10:30 a.m at the Lomas Santa Fe Country Club in Solano Beach. Two local authors will be presented. Matt Coyle is the author of the best-selling Rich Cahill PI crime series and mystery writer of the year in 2021. His newest mystery “Odyssey’s End” will be presented. Irving Tragen spent 55 years with the foreign service in Latin America. His new novel “Manana Is Yesterday” will be the topic of his discussion.

Beach and Country Guild to co-host benefit “Livin’ to the Maxx -80s Party”

The Beach and Country Guild and United Cerebral Palsy of San Diego will co-host “Livin’ to the Maxx -80s Party” Tuesday, May 7 from 6 p.m.-10 p.m. at the Belly Up in Solana Beach. Rock out and flash back to the ‘80s with live entertainment from BETAMAXX.

The event will also feature libations, delicious bites, donation drawing-live auction, and more.

San Diego Writers Festival

The San Diego Writers Festival, a partnership of Warwick’s bookstore in La Jolla and the Coronado Public Library, will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at the Coronado Library. All events are free and open to the public.

Free Spring Choral Concert at the Village Church

The original version of a Handel concerto composed some 300 years ago will make its San Diego debut with the Village Church Community Chorale in Rancho Santa Fe on Sunday, April 14 at 7 p.m. The annual Spring Choral Concert will feature Handel’s Concerto for Organ in F Major with a choral finale featuring the 80+ voices of the Chorale, several soloists, organist Suzanne Shick, and members of the San Diego and Pacific Symphony Orchestras under the direction of Juan Carlos Acosta, director of worship at the Village Church. The free concert will also present a rare performance of Mozart’s complete mass setting “Missa Solemnis” and his vocal composition “Ave Verum Corpus.”

The concert will be held in the Village Church sanctuary at 6225 Paseo Delicias in Rancho Santa Fe. A freewill offering will be collected.

San Dieguito Academy presents Roald Dahl’s ‘Matilda the Musical’

San Dieguito Academy will be performing Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical, written by Dennis Kelly and music/lyrics written by Tim Minchin. Performances will be April 11-13 and April 18-20 at 7 p.m. and April 17 at 4 p.m. SDA will be hosting a special sneak peek dinner and a show fundraiser on April 10 with dinner starting at 5:30 p.m. and the show starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are now on sale, according to a news release.

All shows will be performed at the Clayton E. Liggett Theater on the San Dieguito High School Academy campus, 800 Santa Fe Drive, Encinitas, 92024. Community Resource Center Tea Fundraiser benefits folks in need

The Community Resource Center’s 29th annual CRC Tea fundraiser is at 11:30 a.m. April 20 at Fairbanks Ranch Country Club, 15150 San Dieguito Road. The event raises money and awareness for community members facing hunger, homelessness and trauma. The program, co-hosted by Maddie Altschuler and Lindsey Brubaker, members of the CRC board of directors, includes remarks from CEO John Van Cleef about the life-changing impact of CRC programs. The Best Buddies Friendship Walk: San Diego will be held Saturday, May 11, at Kit Carson Park in Escondido.

Coastal Roots Farm to host first ‘Express Freely, Art-Making Day’

Coastal Roots Farm, a nonprofit Jewish community farm and education center in Encinitas is teaming up with the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center and Limmud North America for a special “Express Freely, Art-Making Day” on the Farm, Sunday, March 31, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. All are invited for a day of community artmaking and creative exploration around the central theme of rebirth. Each participant will get to participate in two art tracks, choosing between creative writing, photography, theater/movement, choral singing, and visual art.

To make this day extra special, the Farm has commissioned five teaching artists from across the U.S. to guide the sessions. No prior experience with the arts is necessary; all that is needed is the desire to try something new and the inner OK to let yourself play.

This program is geared towards adults; kids ages 14 and up are also welcome. Two of the tracks will be particularly family friendly..
