The National Weather Service briefly issued a tornado warning for areas in several Central Coast counties Saturday evening.
The NWS issued the warning shortly after 6 p.m. for areas including the southeastern Santa Cruz County and northwestern Monterey County through 6:45 p.m., as well as in northwestern San Benito County through 7 p.m.
The NWS attributed the warning to a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado, advising people in affected areas to take cover immediately.

At 7:04 p.m., the NWS said on social media that the thunderstorm it was tracking was no longer capable of producing a tornado.
In a statement issued after the warning expired Saturday, the NWS said, in part: "So far there have been no reports of a tornado on the ground. If anything, there may have been a waterspout that touched down just north of Moss Landing, and we will investigate this further in the coming hours and days."
As of Saturday evening, there were no reports of any damage or injuries.
