A structure fire engulfed a building in downtown Columbia early Friday morning at 3:45 a.m.

Columbia Fire Department (CFD) posted to their Facebook regarding the crew's quick response to the scene where a commercial building was heavily involved in a fire, according to a press release.

The story-and-a-half building was heavily engulfed in flames, putting the connected buildings at risk of catching on fire as well.

The fire was located on the 800 Block of North Boulevard.

Five minutes into the first crew fighting back the fire, the incident commander requested a second alarm to bring in more trucks to combat the flames according to the release.

Crews had remained on scene for hours to assist investigations.

No injuries have been reported at this time, but CFD reported that the investigation into what caused the fire is ongoing.
