Nelly Furtado and Juanes Announce That They’re Reuniting for ‘Gala Y Dalí’

Back in 2002, Nelly Furtado and Juanes teamed up for “Fotografía,” a wistful guitar ballad that hit Number One on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs and Latin Pop Airplay charts. At the time, both artists had rocketed to stardom with their debut albums, Furtado with Whoa Nelly! and Juanes with Fijate Bien. “Fotografía” united two forces from different parts of the industry and put their chemistry front and center, showcasing Furtado singing in Spanish for the first time. It quickly became a standout on Juanes’ seminal sophomore album, Un Día Normal.

Now, 22 years later, the two stars have announced that they’re reuniting for a new song called “Gala Y Dalí.” The track is bound to reignite some 200os-era Latin pop nostalgia and remind people how seamless their sound is together. The song will be out on March 28 and features production by Andres Torres, Mauricio Rengifo, and long-time Juanes collaborator Sebastian Krys.

“For me, it’s a profound delight to be with Nelly,” Juanes said in a statement. “It means a lot because we have shared a big part of our lives since ‘Fotografía’ until now.” He explained that on the song, Furtado guided him and helped him tap into a new sounds. “Nelly takes me to a place of joy and light,” he shared. “I could give myself an opportunity to break away from my sound, from what I play on the guitar, to go to a more Caribbean, so to speak, more danceable sound, which Nelly also wanted to have in this song.”

Furtado called it a “very positive song, like a ray of sunshine,” and spoke about her connection to Juanes. “We are crazy about music, that is why we are friends.”

Juanes enjoyed a major year in 2023, winning a Latin Grammy Award for Best Pop/Rock Album and the Grammy for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album. Furtado has also been releasing more music, popping onto Timbaland’s “Keep Going Up,” which features Justin Timberlake.
