This adorable tiny house designed and built in Australia is ultra-compact but fully equipped with an off-grid system that allows it to function self-sufficiently in a completely natural environment without compromising everyday living comfort.
The aptly named Zen Tiny House is a perfect expression of what today's adventurers are looking for when it comes to housing – a fully mobile abode that can withstand harsh conditions and function smoothly in any off-grid setup. This makes the Zen Tiny a perfect travel companion for those who want to spend short periods of time in various locations and explore the outdoors while still enjoying the comfort and safety of a private haven.

This house on wheels also embodies the contemporary perspective on minimalism. Its ultra-clean aesthetic makes it seem deceptively simple and almost bare; still, there's incredible functionality behind each carefully added item and amenity. Everything was strategically chosen to maximize spaciousness and enhance everyday comfort while staying within the constraints of a road-legal THOW with a minimal footprint.

The Aussie Zen tiny house is only seven meters long (22.9 feet) and 2.5 meters (8.2 feet) wide. Sitting on a triple-axle, 5.4-ton trailer with electric brakes and a compliance plate, the Zen Tiny reveals a simple layout with one loft bedroom and an open-concept main floor that houses the kitchen, the enclosed bathroom, and the lounge. Still, at a closer look, you'll find that this basic setup hides many more functionalities.

First and foremost, this Aussie house on wheels by Sowelo Tiny Houses is equipped for a fully off-grid, comfortable lifestyle. It's fitted with six 300-watt solar panels and high-capacity battery storage. A dedicated area under the main pop-out window holds the batteries, the inverter, the regulator, and a multi-point tracker. The compartment is compliant, fully vented, and designed for easy exterior access.

Zen's battery-solar package also includes an internal digital monitor display, allowing the owners to easily check the battery charge percentage and other functions. In order to be fully self-sufficient, this tiny also ditched the conventional toilet in favor of a composting one that doesn't require water. Plus, its gutter and down pipe were specifically adapted to collect rainwater.

Like all of the models from this eco-aware Australian brand, the Zen Tiny House integrates sustainably sourced materials and eco-friendly options, such as glues and coating that are entirely VOC-free or low-VOC. Mountain Ash hardwood timber was used for the custom-built staircase with multiple hidden drawers, shelves, and a wardrobe compartment.

The staircase with a sturdy handrail ensures easy, safe access to the loft bedroom. Big enough to fit a two-person bed, this loft also offers the benefit of a two-window configuration; both are big awning windows fitted with insect screens. This particular setup is the best for proper cross-ventilation, as well as a rich influx of natural light, keeping the bedroom from becoming dark and suffocating.

The solid protection wall doubles as a bookcase on the inside of the bedroom for extra storage that doesn't take up any extra space. This ply storage unit helps keep the bedroom clutter-free and offers easy-to-reach storage.

Downstairs, the compact kitchen reveals beautiful countertops that are also made from sustainable Mountain Ash, just like the staircase. Although tiny, this kitchen provides heavy-duty storage in the form of a full-height pull-out pantry and two sets of drawers. The large sink, full gas oven/stove, and range hood are part of the standard equipment. The Zen Tiny also comes with a washing machine and an instant hot water system.

The separate bathroom is fully equipped with a glass shower cabin, a composting toilet, and a beautiful hand-made ceramic basin. An oversized mirror adds an unexpected touch of glamor, complementing the high-quality taps and fixtures.

An oversized window not only ensures the best views of the natural surroundings but also helps turn the kitchen into an indoor/outdoor area, where the countertop can double as an informal snack bar from the outside.

An ingenious extension doubles as a dining table and a home office desk. It's an extension of the kitchen countertop with enough room for two bar stools. This is where the battery monitoring system is also integrated for easy access.

The home's beautiful sliding doors open onto the spacious lounge area, bathed in natural light. A plush L-shaped sofa provides the perfect setup for unwinding after a busy day outdoors and enjoying quality time with family and friends. It can also be converted into a guest bed for additional accommodation.

The oversized pop-out window visually extends the living area outside, with unobstructed views. There's also enough room to add more storage or to customize the setup in a way that fits the owners' needs best.

With its compact, lightweight frame and fully off-grid system, the Zen Tiny House turns self-sufficient, comfortable living into a reality. This is a smaller, more affordable version of the Australian builder's flagship model, the popular Sowelo tiny house.
