A TRIBUTE artist dubbed the world's greatest Elvis act is being backed by someone close to The King - his long-serving drummer, DJ Fontana.

Bolton Arena is set to rock to some of Elvis's greatest hits when America-based Shawn Klush hits the stage in August.

He will also be joined by Elvis's original backing group, The Sweet Inspirations.

Gwyn Hughes, of Bolton Arena, said: "We have been inundated with inquiries for months from as far afield as the USA.

"This latest good news will delight Elvis fans everywhere. Many of the ticket categories have been sold out and we are urging the public to book quickly to secure their seats.

"Bolton Arena is proud to be hosts for this awe-inspiring show which is arguably the biggest and most original Elvis tribute concert ever in Europe - this is rock and roll history in the making."

DJ Fontana was Elvis's drummer for 14 years and was inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame for playing on more than 460 RCA record cuts with Elvis.

It began in October, 1954, when he was hired to play the drums for Presley, marking the beginning of an extraordinary relationship.

He also appeared on many radio broadcasts and performed with Elvis on NBC Television in his 1968 comeback special. Since Elvis's death, Fontana has continued to work with The King's original lead guitarist, Scotty Moore, and recorded "That's All Right (Mama)" with Sir Paul McCartney in 2002.

Shawn Klush's claims to be the best were made official when he won Elvis Presley Enterprises' first Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest last year.

The show is on Saturday, August 9. Tickets can be bought from Bolton Arena on 08448 110999 or www.ticketmaster.co.uk Prices are £28, £38 and £48. A VIP package for £120 is also available.
