GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A woman who had been missing for seven years has been reunited with her family, police say.

She had gone missing in 2017, Michigan State Police said in a Thursday tweet. She contacted her stepmother, who called police on Feb. 26 and told them her stepdaughter was being held against her will at a motel in Inkster in Wayne County.

Police were able to track her down to the Evergreen Motel, where “a girl was heard screaming and crying from a motel room,” MSP said.

Troopers were able to get into the room and recover her. She was brought to a local hospital for a medical evaluation and a police interview, MSP said.

She has since been reunited with her family.

MSP said a suspect has been identified. Police seized drugs, cell phones and a firearm when a search warrant was conducted.

The MSP Trafficking and Abduction Group is working to determine if human trafficking was involved.

“Great work by TAG detectives following this tip and rescuing this woman and getting her back with her family,” F/Lt Mike Shaw said in the tweet.
