LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – A special ceremony was held at Cave Hill Cemetery to honor an officer who lost his life in the line of duty.

Louisville Metro Police officer Peter Grignon was shot and killed by a suspect in south Louisville in March 2005.

Saturday, dozens of LMPD officers, Mayor Craig Greenberg and others attended Grignon’s annual memorial at Cave Hill Cemetery.

"Peter can't be here physically but I know that he is looking down from heaven and I know he is so proud of his brothers and sisters on LMPD to see these young men step up and to remember him in such an amazing way is so meaningful to our family," said Rebecca Grignon, widow of the fallen LMPD officer.

Every year, community members gather at his grave to remember Grignon and his sacrifice.
