More than 10 years ago, Bean Friend set out to compose an instrumental album influenced by ’70s western soundtracks and traditional mariachi and latin music. The result is LA CHACHALACA: a perfect distillation of Morricone-styled spaghetti western vignettes, traditional Mexican mariachi music, and Cuban dance rhythms.
In order to further capture the magic of the album, while captivating his fans in the process, bean Friend set out to find the perfect look for his project. He turned to the artisans at Stitch Buffalo, who embroidered a custom charro suit, which can be seen on the album cover.
“I just launched a mariachi / spaghetti western / cuban project called La Chachalaca,” said Bean. “It’s an instrumental project, influenced by Ennio Morricone, Buena Vista Social Scene, and Mariachi el Bronx. This album is 10+ years in the making, but it really came together during the pandemic. Many talented musicians were a part of this album, from Buffalo, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and Toronto. It’s being released through Nudie Records, based out of Santa Cruz, CA. I teamed up with the talented folks at Stitch Buffalo to make a custom mariachi-style suit. They did a fantastic job.”
Bean Friend is hosting an album listening party on Friday, July 21 at Duende’s Watu Cantina from 9pm-11pm. Western wear encouraged!
