DENTON — Christopher Francis Drummond, who served as the Town of Denton’s lawyer, died of a heart attack while cycling on March 16. He was 69.
According to Scott Getchell, town administrator of The Town of Denton, Drummond will be missed by the people he worked with.
Getchell said, “Chris will be remembered fondly for his dedication to the town, his sharp wit and skilled abilities. He touched the lives of many in profound ways and leaves behind a legacy that will endure through cherished memories.”
Drummond served as lawyer to several Eastern Shore towns starting in 1988. He was admitted into the Maryland Bar in 1980 and opened his legal practice in Centreville in 1983.
According to his Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home obituary, “Throughout his legal career, Chris always did his best to remember that compromise and common sense produce the best results in difficult cases.”
The obituary also said he was an avid boater, who sailed to Bermuda, traveled the Intracoastal Waterway and found most of the creeks and coves of the Chesapeake Bay.
The family asks that memorial gifts be given to BasenjiRescue.org or Queen Anne’s County Animal Services.
Getchell said that the town has appointed an interim town attorney as they begin the process of filling the vacant role.
“We have appointed Ms. Lyndsey Ryan, ESQ, as interim town attorney,” he said.
According to Ryan’s website, she serves as town attorney for Oxford, Trappe, Queenstown, Greensboro and Federalsburg. She is also the attorney for Queen Anne’s County Board of Appeals and the Talbot County Board of Elections.
She is a member of the Mayland Bar and joined Booth, Cropper and Marriner as an associate in 2016. She is a graduate of Roanoke College and went to University of Baltimore School of Law graduating in 2015.
Ryan could not be reached for comment in time for the Star Democrat’s print deadline.
