LIVE: Fargo Native Stars in “A Year With Frog and Toad”

FARGO — It’s a Tony-nominated Broadway show developed right here in Minnesota, at one of the most acclaimed children’s theatre companies in the country.

And now, a Fargo native is its star.

Reed Sigmund is one of the leads in “A Year with Frog and Toad,” starting next month at the Children’s Theatre Company in Minneapolis.

He plays Toad, the anxious, sometimes silly, and deeply beloved best friend of Frog.

You may remember the “Frog and Toad” children’s books upon which the musical is based.

Sigmund says creating the character so many people love from childhood is a huge responsibility.

He says he can identify with some parts of Toad’s character, so that helps.

The show, like the books, is filled with humor and warmth, and at its heart is a truly iconic relationship.

Sigmund took a break from rehearsals to Zoom in live to the Morning Show from Minneapolis to talk about what it’s like to bring such a popular literary character to life on stage, and what he’ll miss about working with the outgoing Artistic Director, Peter Brosius, for whom “A Year with Frog and Toad” will be his final show with CTC.

The show opens April 23rd.
