Empress Of Releases New Album ‘For Your Consideration’

Following

As a young person in Los Angeles, singer-songwriter Empress Of grew up seeing For Your Consideration billboards around town. With her new album, she’s placing herself at the center of her own awards season fantasy.

Empress Of’s fourth studio album For Your Consideration is out now via Giant Music. When reflecting on the meta nature of the title, she told Rolling Stone that she never expected to see herself in the spotlight in that way while growing up in L.A. “I thought it was funny, now that I’m at this stage of my career, I was like, ‘Wouldn’t it be so funny if I had a billboard that said For Your Consideration: For Your Consideration,” she mused. “It makes me giggle.”

“I’m kind of making myself the main character,” she added of the album’s creation. “I’m the star of the show.” Her last full-length was largely a breakup record, and though some of this project deals with similar emotions, she celebrates who she’s become as a result of what she’s gone through. She also brought along artists like Rina Sawayama for the album’s lead single “Kiss Me” and indie pop band Muna on single “What’s Love.” It’s a journey of self-discovery—or rather, rediscovery—worthy of an Oscar-winning film.

There’s still quite a bit of time before For Your Consideration’s For Your Consideration promotions will be sent out for next year’s awards season. But when speaking with the Grammys about the album, she explained that she’s fulled stepped into herself as an artist thanks in part to this project.

“You have that naïve confidence when you're younger. When you're older, you have confidence about not caring anymore,” she said “Naïveness turns into ‘I don't give a f**k.’ That is even more power in itself.”

“Age is confidence. And being older and having done four albums now, I just don't really doubt anything.”
