MercyMe has delivered so many great songs over the decades.

The short list would include such numbers as “Word of God Speak,” “Here with Me,” “Bring the Rain,” “All of Creation,” “Beautiful,” “Even If” and “Best News Ever.”

Despite the plethora of popular offerings — both old and new — MercyMe remains by far best known for its first hit single from way back in 2001.

And there’s a very good reason for that, given that the uplifting anthem in question — the multiplatinum “I Can Only Imagine” — reportedly now stands as the best-selling Christian song of all time.

The number gained even wider exposure when it was prominently featured in the incredibly popular 2018 biopic film of the same name, which was based on MercyMe singer Bart Millard’s life and centered on the story behind the song.

Nearly a quarter century after the song was first released, “I Can Only Imagine” remains as powerful as ever — and one of the many reasons why MercyMe is well worth seeing in concert.

The Oklahoma outfit is hitting the road to support its latest album, “Always Only Jesus,” and performs March 24 at Adventist Health Arena in Stockton. Showtime is 7 p.m. and tickets start at $25, ticketmaster.com. The Newsboys and David Leonard are also on the bill.
