Comicon, St. Patrick’s Day parties and more happening in Toronto this weekend: Mar. 15-17

The weekend is finally here, Toronto! From St. Patrick’s Day parties to Comicon, there is no shortage of ways to unwind and enjoy your weekend in the city. 

FRIDAY MARCH 15

Toronto Comicon 

Calling all sci-fi, horror, anime, gaming, cosplay and comic book fans, Comicon is taking over the Metro Toronto Convention Centre this weekend. Doors open on Friday at 10 a.m., and there are many different attractions for attendees, including cosplay competitions, red carpets, panels, celebrity Q&A sessions and photo-ops.

Pancakes & Booze Art Show

The iconic Pancakes & Booze Art Show is returning to the city to celebrate! Described as one of the largest pop-up art shows in the continent, Pancakes & Booze is celebrating over a decade of serving up free flapjacks. The show is set to feature more than 300 different pieces from 75+ local artists. 

The event starts at 7 p.m. at Revival and is 19+, with live body painting, performances from local DJs and more. Tickets can be purchased here. 

Rezurrection 

There’s a new show opening at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre this weekend that you won’t want to miss. Rezurrection is described as an Indigenous-led and organized celebration, revitalizing the spirit of these ancestral lands. “Through community: both Indigenous and non-Indigenous we honour the connections between our worlds. In the true spirit of Reconciliation, we celebrate all our relations,” the theatre website reads. 

Hosted by Chelazon Leroux, the show runs from March 15 to April 5 and is 19+. Tickets are on sale for $20. 

SATURDAY MARCH 16

Guinness’ All-Day St. Patrick’s Day party

Enjoy an all-day St. Patrick’s Day party hosted by Guinness! The event will see Rebel transform into a massive beer garden with multiple outdoor spaces, decked out with various games and activations. The event kicks off at 11:30 a.m. and features attractions like live music, a free pancake breakfast, Irish dancers and fiddlers, photo booths, and an all-you-can-eat Lucky Charms cereal bar, as well as lots of Guinness beer.

Salsa Dance Lesson & Singles Mixer

Mix and mingle while learning some hot new moves at a two-in-one salsa dance lesson and singles’ mixer this Saturday. Hosted by the Toronto Dating Hub, the event is going down at The Fifth Social Club from 8 – 10 p.m., allowing attendees to learn basic salsa footwork and an easy-to-follow routine while meeting other eligible singles. 

Organizers say the event is great for beginners, but suitable for dancers of all levels of experience. Following the mixer and dance class, the club opens up to the public, at which point guests are invited to dance the night away. Find out more here.

One Direction Drag Night

Directioners, we’re looking at you! Located above O’Grady’s on Church, The Lodge is hosting a One Direction-themed drag night. From 11 p.m. until 2 a.m., guests can enjoy shows from talented drag performers, inspired by the British boy band. It’s a night sure to be packed with nostalgia for baby Millennials and elder Gen Zers.

SUNDAY MARCH 17

St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Don your green apparel and bring your good luck with you for Toronto’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The parade kicks off at noon around St. George and Bloor St. West, lasting around 90 minutes as the congregation heads east on Bloor, before going south on Yonge Street and finishing up at Yonge and Dundas. 

Offset – Set It Off Tour

Offset is coming to Toronto on March 17 for his Set It Off tour. The rap icon is set to take over HISTORY for his show, with doors opening at 7 p.m. and the show kicking off at 8 p.m.

Enjoy Arabian nights [and Arabian days!]

The final weekend of the stage production of Disney’s Aladdin is upon us. Featuring a beautiful set and elaborate costumes, the show tells the story you know and love, with plenty of new tunes accompanied by the classic songs from the 1992 movie. 

Tickets are still available for the final few shows, taking place at Toronto’s Princess of Wales Theatre.
