BCI directs to cancel result of joint secy post of Lawyers Assn
Kanpur: The co-chairman of the Bar Council of India (BCI) Srinath Tripathi has given instructions to the Elders Committee to cancel the results of the post of joint secretary (publication) of the Lawyers Association in Kanpur and conduct re-poll within a month.
In the letter sent to the committee, the Bar Council has said that disciplinary action will be taken against those who had violated the order.

The elections will be held under the supervision of vice-chairman of UP Bar Council Anurag Pandey, the order further stated. Only fresh candidates will have to pay fees for the nomination process.
To recall, during counting of votes for the post of joint secretary (Publication), there was an uproar when 100 votes were found less. The Elders Committee however declared Manish Gaur the winner by a margin of about two hundred votes, while the rival candidate Bhanu Pratap Singh Chauhan demanded recounting of votes for which the committee asked Chauhan to deposit a fee amounting to Rs 15,000 for recounting. However, when Chauhan failed to deposit the aforementioned amount, the committee declared Manish as victorious while announcing the election results. The voting for the election of a new executive committee of the Lawyers Association was held last year on Feb 20.
