Victoria Beckham photographer recalls her wearing £4million diamond 'size of creme egg'

EXCLUSIVE: Victoria Beckham wore a diamond "the size of a creme egg" at Elton John's wedding, and was shadowed by bodyguards for the night as it carried a worth of £4million.

Victoria Beckham was flanked by no less than four security guards as she attended the party for Elton John's 2014 wedding to David Furnish - but they hadn't just been summoned to protect her. As celebrity photographer Greg Brennan has now divulged to Express.co.uk, it was because she was wearing a £4million diamond around her neck.

The iconic moment when Victoria stepped out in a bright red dress boasting cut-outs at the waist was splashed across the newspapers - but few knew the story behind her dazzling jewellery. In fact, in the most memorable snap of the night, the gem was obscured by her hair.

However, Greg revealed all in an exclusive interview: "It's not unusual for her to have security, but there seemed to be a lot more than usual. "We only found out afterward it was that she's wearing a £4million diamond around her neck.

"It was a serious stone, the size of a creme egg. I've never seen a stone that big," he exclaimed, before warning: "In today's world, she'd lose that." He added: "The jewellers had lent it to her for the night, but they sent four bodyguards to protect it."

Greg also recalled that the party's theme had been Wild Africa, so Victoria had worn a leopard print shrug. In the photo he captured, she'd taken it off and was carrying it, so it trailed along behind her.

The magical moment he caught behind his camera lens almost hadn't happened at all, as the photographer hunter had come across her unintentionally that night.

"We were just passing at the time," he explained, adding that she'd attended the wedding reception party as Elton was godfather to her eldest son, Brooklyn.

Victoria has also spoken nostalgically in the past of how words of advice from her "dear friend" Elton led her to decide that a career in the music industry wasn't for her.

When she heard him perform Tiny Dancer on stage in Las Vegas, it was a "life-changing moment" for her, which gave her the courage to step away from the Spice Girls and pursue new passions.

In a letter written to herself which was published to Vogue, Victoria - who celebrates her milestone 50th birthday next month - mused: "You realised this was like oxygen for him... [but] while singing and dancing was fun for you, it wasn’t your passion.

“That day, you started your quest to uncover your own dreams. It was time to step away from being a Spice Girl.”

Meanwhile, Greg divulged that David Beckham had headed to the Iconic Images gallery, where Victoria's night out photo is currently displayed, numerous times - and bought something on every occasion.

However, despite posing for selfies alongside one of Greg's photos of the late Queen, he'd never had a photo taken with his wife's famous image.

As shocking as that might sound, Greg cleared up the rumours by confirming: "We only recently added it."

He also shared that the power couple had been a part of his career for decades, revealing that he'd captured shots of the couple's first ever date.

"The first night those two went out, they went to the Ivy restaurant. He's wearing a leather jacket, he's got long blonde hair [and he's wearing] a crucifix. It's a great shot," he enthused.

Victoria's photo, among many other celebrated images, can be seen in the latest exhibition, Bright Lights Big City, which runs at Iconic Images Gallery until May 25.
