2 fatal crashes, one suspected of involving alcohol: OSP

(WJW) — The Ohio State Highway Patrol said it’s investigtaing two seperate fatal crashes and that one of the crashes is suspected of involving alcohol.

Troopers said a passenger, a 46-year-old Sherrodsville woman was killed in the accident when the man driving the car she was riding with went off the road, hitting a guardrail, striking a ditch, and then overturned.

The crash happened just before 3 a.m. Sunday on State Route 39 in Union Township near New Philadelphia.

“Alcohol is a suspected factor in the crash and none of the occupants were wearing seatbelts,” troopers said.

Meanwhile, in a separate crash, the Mansfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash involving an SUV on Vanderbilt Road in Richland County’s Washington Township Saturday just after 11 p.m.

Troopers said a 48-year-old man from Bellville was driving eastbound on Vanderbilt Road when his vehicle traveled off the right side of the road and struck a tree.

Troopers said the man was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
