Man arrested in Avondale double shooting that killed woman, injured another

A man has been arrested in a double shooting in Avondale that left a woman dead and another person injured Thursday night, according to Cincinnati police.

John Williams, 40, is facing a murder charge in connection with the shooting death of 42-year-old Kenyada Wheeler, police said in a news release Friday morning.

Officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Burton Avenue around 11:15 p.m. for a report of a person shot. When they arrived, police found the two victims shot inside an apartment.

Wheeler died at the scene and the other victim, whose identity hasn't been released, was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment.

The investigation by the Cincinnati Police Department's homicide unit is ongoing. Anyone with information should call police at 513-352-3542.
