The Mohave County General Plan could be submitted before the Mohave County Board of Supervisors next May. But first, officials will gather input from residents as to what may be needed over the county’s next 10 years of development.
On Monday, the county’s governing board approved a proposed work plan for the 2025 General Plan Update, detailing a host of community meetings throughout one of the nation’s largest counties. The Mohave County Public Works Department expects to gather insights from stakeholders over the next year in municipal and rural communities over the next six months.
“Our intent is to reach out and meet with individuals in each of these communities, and solicit their input for the General Plan; and any ideas or suggestions they might have,” said Development Services Director Tim Walsh this week.
The first of those meetings are expected to take place in May, in the Beaver Dam and Colorado City areas. In June, Development Services officials will meet with residents in Lake Havasu City, Topock and Golden Valley in June; with similar meetings planned for Meadview, Dolan Springs, White Hills and Yucca in August. County staff are expected to present maps and information regarding the General Plan at each of those meetings, with possible changes recommended by officials.
“Part of the proposal is to create a committee basically selecting one of each of the district’s commissioners to create a General Planning committee,” Walsh said at this week’s board meeting. “Their role would be to review the comments and suggestions that we receive during all of our community meetings, and then translate those into proposed revisions to the general plan.”
As part of that process, the public will have opportunity to submit comments at each meeting, or electronically through the county’s website at www.mohave.gov.
The plan’s ultimate development will be determined by a Mohave County Planning and Zoning Commission subcommittee, and a final update to the General Plan could be completed by the end of this year.
A final 2025 General Plan could receive approval next May from the Mohave County Board of Supervisors, which will determine future county development through 2035.
