First Alert Forecast: Strong storms overnight
Damaging wind and heavy rain are the main threats.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - It’s going to be a nice day with temperatures in the 80s before a line of strong storms pushes through the Mid State late tonight into early Friday morning, prompting a First Alert Weather Day.
Drier but cooler weather is expected to follow.
A warm and breezy afternoon is expected today with high temperatures soaring well above average into the low 80s. Enjoy the afternoon before storms move in late tonight.

FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY FRIDAY
Widespread rain and some strong thunderstorms are expected to start late tonight and last into early Friday morning as a cold front moves through. The highest severe risk is along and west of I-65. The main threats are damaging wind gusts and heavy rainfall. Tornadoes are not likely, but they cannot be ruled out. Some rain showers will linger throughout the day on Friday and temperatures will cool down to the 60s by the afternoon.

THIS WEEKEND:
Cooler but drier air takes over for the weekend. Expect temperatures to be in the 60s Saturday and Sunday. We’ll see plenty of sunshine on Saturday, but clouds take over for most of the day Sunday for St. Patrick’s Day.
COLDER AIR NEXT WEEK:
Temperatures will get even colder as we head into next week, especially the overnight lows. Highs on Monday and Tuesday will only be in the 50s with overnight lows in the 20s and 30s. We aren’t done with winter just yet so be sure to protect any plants you may have already planted for the spring season.
