Pittsylvania County Schools want to pay their teachers and staff more.

The school district is working on a new budget to become more competitive when they hire.

The district wants to raise salaries by 3% as a cost of living adjustment.

Superintendent Dr. Mark Jones said it's difficult to hire any staff members right now and that a pay bump could go a long way.

The school district is asking for more funding from the county this year.

They typically get a little over $23 million from Pittsylvania County.

They're asking for an extra $3.2 million on top of that number.

On Monday night the school board is holding a special board meeting and public hearing focused on the budget.
