This restaurant created a fish fry pizza for Lent
MADISON, Wis. (Spectrum News Milwaukee) – If you want to mix up your Friday night fish fry dinners during Lent with something new, one Wisconsin restaurant is offering an interesting hybrid: a fish fry pizza.
Adam Nagy, general manager of Ian’s Pizza in Madison, says to think of the fish fry pizza like a fish sandwich.
The base of the pizza is mozzarella and tartar sauce, and it’s topped with fried cod and French fries. Then, once out of the oven, it’s garnished with coleslaw.
Nagy says so far, customers seem to love the creation.
“That weirdness factor, that once people actually try it, they’re like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is so good,’” Nagy said.
Nagy says the fish fry pizza has become one of their most popular specialty pizzas ever.
“It’s Wisconsin, so people love a good fish fry. It’s a little slice of happiness,” he said.
During Lent, many Christians don’t eat meat on Fridays, so fish is a traditional alternative for meals.
Lent ends on Easter, which this year is March 31.
