SHORT TERM FORECAST

TONIGHT: Mainly clear and cold with diminishing winds. Low: 27

MONDAY: Mostly sunny and pleasant. High: 53

MONDAY NIGHT: Increasing clouds. Low: 31

FORECAST SUMMARY

Sunday was much improved compared to Saturday as the region got back to dry conditions with an abundance of sunshine. It was definitely a bit chilly thanks to a northerly breeze occasionally gusting 20-30mph early on, but as long as you had a heavier jacket or sweater on, it wasn't too bad at all to be out and about. Afternoon high temperatures Sunday reached the upper 40s. Fair skies and closer to normal temperatures look to start us off for the new week with the next opportunity for some rain likely arriving by the middle of the week. High temperatures should generally waver back and forth through the 50s for much of the week ahead and nighttime lows will gradually turn milder only dropping into the upper 30s to low 40s by the middle to latter portion of the week. No significant storm systems are expected to impact the region over the next week but a week system looks to move in from late Tuesday night through Thursday bringing cloudier skies and the chance for at least some light rain showers. An early look ahead to Easter weekend suggests our weather will be quiet with a mix of clouds and sun and seasonably mild high temperatures in the upper 50s to around 60 degrees. There is a bit of uncertainty though surrounding next weekend's forecast so stay tuned!

DETAILED FORECAST

TONIGHT

Skies will remain pretty clear coming off of the daytime Sunday, with just a few high clouds occasionally moving on through. With lighter winds overnight and plenty of clear sky, nighttime lows should be able to dip down to some pretty cold levels in the upper 20s.

MONDAY AND TUESDAY

Temperatures look to stay at or near normal as the new week begins. High pressure will remain in control for Monday and Tuesday leading to a dry first half of the week. Mostly sunny skies should greet us on Monday as we head back to work and school with lighter winds compared to Sunday. High temperatures should also return to relatively pleasant levels for this time of the year in the low to mid 50s. An easterly onshore wind is expected to take hold on Tuesday and this will likely lead to a bit more cloud cover, still mixed with at least some sun, along with slightly cooler high temperatures in the lower 50s.

WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY

A cold front is expected to track in for Wednesday leading to mostly cloudy skies and a chance for some light rain showers, although plenty more dry times than wet times should be the case. Despite the mostly cloudy skies Wednesday, a more southerly wind flow in advance of the cold front should help to raise high temperatures a little back into the upper 50s. Thursday's high temperatures are then expected to drop back to the mid 50s as the aforementioned cold front briefly stalls along the coast while an area of low pressure develops near the Carolinas and tracks northeastward along the front. This setup looks to keep mostly cloudy skies around for our Thursday along with a continued chance for some showers. Despite the chance for some wet weather for the middle part of the week, any rainfall that occurs should be nowhere near as heavy as what we saw this past weekend.

GOOD FRIDAY AND EASTER WEEKEND

High pressure should return for Good Friday leading to a dry and sunny day, with a bit of a breeze kicking up and seasonably cool high temperatures in the low to mid 50s. Question marks remain surrounding an area of low pressure and frontal boundary trying to move in from the west for Easter weekend. The majority of forecast model guidance tends to suggest these features just fizzle out and don't do much to our region other than maybe bringing a tad more cloud cover. But there are a couple pieces of guidance that suggest the low and front have a little more oomph to them leading to at least some showers and cooler temperatures. We'll take the optimistic outlook at this point and say both Saturday and Easter Sunday will be dry and pleasant with a mix of clouds and sun and high temperatures in the upper 50s to near 60 degrees. But stay tuned for updates throughout the week because this forecast could change.
