RESPECTIVE DEMOCRATIC AND REPUBLICAN NOMINATIONS. WE'LL HAVE MORE ON THIS, COMING UP IN OUR NEWSCAST. PROTESTERS GATHERED AT THE STATE CAPITOL THIS MORNING TO CHALLENGE STATE BILLS THAT THEY BELIEVE WILL LIMIT FREE SPEECH...PARTICULARLY WHEN IT COMES TO THE WAR BETWEEN ISRAEL AND HAMAS. MISSISSIPPIANS FOR PALESTINE RALLIED TO FIGHT AGAINST HOUSE BILL 7-68 AND SENATE BILL 22-26. THESE BILLS WOULD REQUIRE THE DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION TO CREATE A LIST OF COMPANIES THAT ARE ENGAGED IN A BOYCOTT AGAINST ISRAEL. THE LIST WOULD BE POSTED FOR THE PUBLIC TO SEE. THESE COMPANIES WOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO RECEIVE ANY INVESTMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT SYSTEM AND THE STATE TREASURER. <LEGISLATION TO INTIMIDATE PEOPLE WHO EXERCISE FREE SPEECH THAT ARE CRITICAL OF ISRAEL OR SUPPORTIVE OF PALESTINE MAKES IT ESPECIALLY EGREGIOUS TO US, AND WE'RE JUST HERE TODAY TO EXERCISE FREE SPEECH TO PROTECT FREE SPEECH

This list would be posted for the public to see on their website and these companies would not be allowed to receive any investments from the public employees' retirement system and the state treasurer.

Blake Feldman, co-founder of Mississippians 4 Palestine, shared why it is important to protest bills like this.

"People who practice free speech that are critical of Israel or supportive of Palestine makes it especially egregious to us, and we're just here today to exercise free speech to protect free speech," said Feldman.

If these bills are passed, they will take effect on July 1.
