State Sheriffs are on high alert for 28-year-old Keenan Acia who left Laumaka Monday morning on a job-seeking pass.

Acia was supposed to return to Laumaka grounds by 2:30 p.m. but never showed.

Senator Glenn Wakai said this doesn’t happen often.

“Those guys are within 6 months of being released. It really dumb for them to not return. Now this guy will have new charges and will be put behind bars,” Wakai explained.

Reports said Acia is a community custody inmate, the lowest classification status, who has pass privileges to actively seek employment or work in the community.

“Work furloughs, for the most part, are an excellent way to transition an inmate back into the community. You don’t want to have a guy walk out of Halawa prison with no skills or positive contacts,” he added.

The Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said he is serving time for first-degree burglary and unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.

Acia stands at five feet, eight inches tall, and is approximately 147 pounds with a medium build. Reports also said he has brown hair and brown eyes.
