Galvin Cello Quartet closes out TEF's 86th Performance Series

Mar. 20—THOMASVILLE — A unique and award-winning classical music ensemble comes to south Georgia this month, as Thomasville Entertainment Foundation's 86th performance season closes with the Galvin Cello Quartet.

The international ensemble takes the stage at the Thomasville Center for the Arts on Tuesday, March 26, at 7:30 p.m., and good seats are available for the concert, which features a diverse program of works by Antonio Vivaldi, David Popper, Richard Wagner, Gioachino Rossini and Carlos Gardel, among others.

Tickets are $40 for adults, $15 for students, and all seats are reserved. A number of free Tickets for Teens are also available to local high school students, made possible by a grant from the Thomasville Antiques Show Foundation and an anonymous gift to TEF's Education Fund.

"The cello quartet is a rare classical music configuration, so this concert by the Galvin Cello Quartet provides an opportunity for people to experience something truly unique and special," said TEF Executive & Artistic Director Rick Ivey. "Their diverse program for the Thomasville performance, spanning 300 years of great music and renowned composers, allows them to explore the limitless range of the cello in an intimate and acoustically special concert setting."

Cellists Sihao He, Sydney Lee, Haddon Kay, and Luiz Fernando Venturelli met as students at Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music. With members from China, Brazil, South Korea, and the United States, Galvin Cello Quartet burst onto the international scene after capturing the silver medal at the 2021 Fischoff Competition, followed shortly by winning the 2022 Victor Elmaleh Competition and joining the Concert Artists Guild roster.

In addition to the Tuesday evening concert, TEF has arranged a special matinee concert, giving an audience of local elementary-aged students and older strings program students the opportunity to hear world-class musicians perform and discuss the pieces they are playing.

"Whenever possible, Thomasville Entertainment Foundation provides enrichment activities that expose local students to our concert artists," explained TEF's Vice President for Education Dr. Annie Laurie McElroy. "We believe in the power of the arts to impact and enrich young lives, and there is never any charge to a participating student or school for any TEF-sponsored student matinee, master class, workshop or enrichment activity, thanks to generous supporters of our Education Fund."
