Katie Lee Biegel’s ‘Do Nothing’ Cake Is Great for People Who Hate Baking but Love Eating Dessert

There are two types of people in this world — those who love to bake as much as they love to eat baked goods, and those who love baked goods but would rather not turn the oven on. If you’re in the latter category, then it’s time to upgrade your store-bought desserts with something that’s homemade but doesn’t require any baking skills (or barely any time) to make. It’s Katie Lee Biegel‘s “Do Nothing” cake and it baking seriously doesn’t get much easier than this.

“My great aunt Pat shared this recipe with me,” Biegel wrote in the recipe description over on the Food Network website. “She said it was quite popular amongst the ‘Woman’s Club’ crowd back in the 1970s and even though it looks like an unusual recipe (you don’t have to separate wet and dry ingredients), it totally works. It really is so easy and produces a great cake.”

As your oven preheats, you assemble all of your ingredients in a large bowl, starting first with the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt. Then, in a well of the center of the dry ingredients, you add your wet — pineapple, eggs, vanilla, and walnuts. Mix everything together, being careful not to overmix, and then transfer to a greased baking pan and place it in the oven.

While the cake bakes, you can make your frosting by whipping together cream cheese, butter, confectioner’s sugar, and vanilla. Then, when the cake is completely cooled, you can frost, cut, and serve it. Yup, that’s it!

“I just made that yesterday! It was awesome!” one person commented on the Food Network post. Another added, “I make this all the time, I cheat and add coconut to the batter.”

Someone else said, “It is a proven fact that cream cheese frosting can make anything taste delicious.” And that’s 100 percent true.

So if you’re craving a homemade cake fresh from the oven but hate the thought of having to slave away in the kitchen for hours, then this recipe is for you. Grab it over on Food Network’s website and have homemade cake for dessert every night of the week.
