INDIANAPOLIS — Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson is getting some well-deserved praise for going out of his way to help a stranded couple last week.
Parker Suddeth and his girlfriend Zoe Reuter thought their luck had gone from bad to worst last Wednesday when they got a flat tire on I-65 and had to pull over onto the shoulder.
Suddeth tried to change the tire himself but when he ran into problems with one lug nut, he realized he was going to need some help.
”I was walking up and down the interstate and trying to wave people down,” Suddeth said. “Anybody with a box truck, a work truck, anything.”
It took 20 minutes before someone pulled over to help Suddeth. The man who stepped out simply introduced himself as “Anthony” and asked how he could help.
”I didn’t even realize who he was at first,” Suddeth said, acknowledging he grew up a Colts fan but hadn’t paid attention in recent years.
Right off the bat, Suddeth said this mystery man named Anthony pulled out $200 to give him.
”He leaned over and gave me this money and said, ‘You guys should go get new tires,'” Suddeth said.
That wasn’t all though, Anthony then offered to give Suddeth a ride to the auto parts store to get the tools he needed to get the spare tire on. On the way there, the two struck up a conversation.
”I asked, ‘Hey, what do you do for a living?'” Suddeth said. “He said, ‘I’m a football player.’ I said, ‘Really?’ He said, ‘Ya, I play for the Colts.’ And I looked him up and I said, ‘You’re the quarterback for the Colts.’ Wow, I guess I’m a fan now.”
That’s right, Anthony Richardson, full-time Colts starting quarterback and full-time good guy, helping out a stranger on the side of the road.
”For him to just stop, help us, give me a ride, give us some money, so we could get dinner that night and new tires, that’s the world to me,” Suddeth said.
When they got back, a Hoosier Helper named Carl had pulled up to help put the spare tire on. Suddeth’s new friend Anthony stuck around to make sure he and Zoe were all good.
”He came over and he was talking to us and, honestly, he was so polite,” Zoe said. “He had just such a calm demeanor about him. It was a really comforting thing to know that someone cared.”
The entire time, Suddeth said Richardson was a totally normal person.
”He didn’t ask us to post him,” Suddeth said. “I just asked for a picture and that was it.”
The Colts QB wasn’t looking for any recognition or praise for his good deed, just wanting to make sure two strangers on the side of the road were okay.
”A lot of people wouldn’t do that same thing he did for me, not even the money, just stopping and helping,” Suddeth said.
Reuter said it might not have meant much to Richardson, but it did to them. The pair were having a rough go at it recently but Reuter feels like things are turning around.
”It is a little bit life-changing because otherwise, I would have had to go and spend all the money I would have spent on my gas tank on the tires,” Reuter said.
Suddeth posted the picture to Instagram, thanking Richardson for his help. Richardson commented on the post saying, “My guy! Weird way to make a new friend, rooting for you dude.”
It’s safe to say Suddeth is rooting for the Colts QB too, and Richardson has made a fan for life.
