MANILA, Philippines — The University of the Philippines (UP)-Diliman, Quezon City website was ranked first among Philippine higher education institutions (HEIs) on the 2024 Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, which tracks the impact and linkages of higher education websites.

At least 363 HEIs in the Philippines landed in the global rankings, which rated nearly 12,000 universities and colleges globally.

Three of UP’s websites landed on the list: its UP Diliman, UP System and UP Manila sites. UP System’s website was ranked third in the Philippines.

De La Salle University Manila was ranked second, while Ateneo de Manila University and the University of Santo Tomas were ranked fourth and fifth, respectively.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Top 10 are the University of San Carlos, UP Manila, Mapua University, Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology and Visayas State University.

The world site rankings are published by the Cybermetrics Lab of the Spanish National Research Council, Spain’s largest public research body.

It tracks HEIs through the volume of content on their website, the visibility of these content and the impact of the published materials based on how much these are linked to other research materials online.

It also ranks schools based on impact, openness and excellence. Globally, UP Diliman was ranked 775th, 2039th and 1107th in the three areas, respectively.

Started in 2004, the Cybermetrics Lab said the ranking was intended to motivate schools and researchers “to have a web presence that reflect accurately their activities.”
