San Jose Earthquakes to host Chivas in Leagues Cup opener
The San Jose Earthquakes will face off with one of Liga MX's most popular clubs when Chivas travels to California this summer.
The Quakes will host Chivas in the group stage of the Leagues Cup. That match is set for Saturday, July 27, at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara. The Leagues Cup pits MLS clubs against teams from Liga MX in a World Cup-style tournament.
It will be a reunion for the Quakes and their former MLS All-Star, Cade Cowell. Cowell was sent to Guadalajara in January for a club-record multimillion-dollar transfer fee. He played five seasons with the Quakes before joining Chivas.
Each Leagues Cup group will feature three clubs. San Jose and Chivas will also take on LA Galaxy in the group stage.
This will be the second year of the Leagues Cup tournament. In 2023, Lionel Messi and MLS club Inter Miami took home the trophy with a win over Nashville SC on penalty kicks.
