Eldora Mountain opened up the front side of the resort at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, following a morning closure caused by a crash on its access road, which occurred in the wake snow measured in feet that had fallen in recent days.

Around 11:30 p.m., Eldora Marketing Director Sam Bass met with Eldora employees to discuss a limited opening of the front side chairlifts.

“We got more done than anyone thought we were gonna get done,” said Bass. “We got to a point at around 11:30 that we could get the mountain open if the road was ready.”

Earlier in the morning, there were closures on Shelf Road, the access road to Eldora, due to a grader falling off the side of the road near Peterson Lake, according to Bass.

The grader, a multi-purpose, heavy-duty machine with a long blade used to create flat surfaces, went off the bank but didn’t fall into the lake. Bass said nobody sustained injuries in the incident.

“There were 40 people lined up at the (Nederland) high school hoping and waiting we’d open,” said Bass. “We didn’t want to say anything until the graders and plows were off the road.”

Eldora, the Boulder County winter resort located just west of Nederland, received an additional 13 inches of snow on Friday morning, according to Bass.
