The Green Bay Packers released veteran linebacker De'Vondre Campbell on Wednesday, the start of the new league year.
Campbell spent the last three seasons in Green Bay. He earned a first-team All-Pro selection in his first season with the Packers in 2021.
"We want to thank De’Vondre for his contributions to the Packers and the community over the last few seasons," Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst said. "He had a big impact on this team with his on-field performance and leadership as well as in the community through his charitable efforts. We wish De'Vondre, his wife, Nicole, and their family all the best."
According to ESPN's Rob Demovsky, there were three years left on a five-year deal worth $50 million that Campbell signed in 2022. Campbell was set to make $10.75 million this season, including a $2.9 million roster bonus due this Friday. The Packers will be off the hook for the bonus and his entire 2024 compensation by cutting him. If they designate him as a post-June 1 cut, the Packers will save $10.57 million on this year's salary cap. If not, they will still save $2.6 million. Campbell's salary cap charge for this season would've been $14.2 million. Instead, he will count as $11.63 million in dead money (or $3.66 million if he's a post-June 1 cut).
Free Agency officially began at 3 p.m. CT Wednesday.
