Residents were evacuated as a fierce blaze tore through the roof at a block of flats in Edinburgh.

The alarm was raised shortly after 4am on Sunday, March, 24, as flames took hold of the property on Telford Road.

Fire crews spent more than six hours tackling the blaze with emergency crews still in attendance at the scene.

All residents were evacuated safely from the building, Edinburgh Live reports.

Councillor Nicolson shared images from the scene after the fire had been extinguished by the SFR. One picture showed the top floor flat's windows burnt out and holes in the roof created by the flames.

Firefighters could be seen getting their uniforms into bags by a fire engine and police car on Telford Drive.

A spokesperson for the SFRS said: "We received a call at 4.05am of reports of a fire on Telford Drive.

"The building was fully evacuated and four pumps as well as a high reach appliance were in attendance.

"Some appliances remain at the scene dampening down the area and no casualties have been reported."
