Nashir Ahmed: Suspect appears in court charged with culpable homicide after man killed in Edinburgh bus stop attack

A suspect has appeared in court charged with culpable homicide following the death of a man who was attacked at an Edinburgh bus stop.
Police Scotland began an investigation after Nashir Ahmed, 65, and his friend were approached and set upon by another man on the city's Ferry Road around 8.30pm on Sunday 10 March.
Mr Ahmed died at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh on Friday 15 March.
His friend, a 48-year-old man, was discharged from hospital after receiving treatment for serious leg and facial injuries.
On Thursday evening, Police Scotland announced a 38-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the case.
Suspect Daniel Springer appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Friday, where he was accused of culpable homicide and assault to severe injury.

Tap hereSpringer, of no fixed abode, made no plea to the two charges and was remanded in custody.
He is due back in the dock within eight days of his first court appearance.

Following Mr Ahmed's death, his family released a statement through Police Scotland.
They said: "Nashir was a loving husband and father.
"He was a big part of our family and we are devastated at losing him.
"He was heavily involved in Edinburgh's Bangladeshi community and will be greatly missed.
"He loved life and cared for all his family and friends. We will always remember his warmth and his kindness."
