Family Friendly Events March 29-April 4

It's shaping up to be a wonderful Easter weekend in the Lowcountry, with a whole slew of egg hunts and Easter-related events taking place. 

The annual women's tennis tournament, Credit One Charleston Open, starts this weekend and lasts all week on Daniel Island. 

Next week kicks off spring break for Charleston County School District families, and various spring break camps and classes are being offered throughout the area. Charleston County Parks will have Explorers Camp all week long for ages 6-9. The Children's Museum of the Lowcountry will be open all week for spring break, and the libraries will be holding a variety of programs for kids.

Here's a highlight of family-friendly events happening in the Charleston area during the week of March 29 - April 4, 2024.

Friday, March 29

The Charleston Museum will host a Teen Workshop: Lethal Lady at 10 a.m. that tells the tale of America’s first female serial killer, Lavinia Fisher.

At 11 a.m. Patriots Point will host a memorial ceremony inside the Vietnam Experience Exhibit in honor of National Vietnam War Veterans Day, which marks the 51st anniversary of the day U.S. troops left Vietnam.

The Charleston County Public Library's Village Library Easter Egg Hunt, located at 430 Whilden St. in Mount Pleasant, is offering two program sessions (one from 2-3:30 p.m., and the other from 4-5:30 p.m.) that will include storytime, snacks, pictures with the Easter Bunny and an Easter egg hunt. Charleston Bluegrass Festival is a two-day festival with a lineup of nationally known bands and musicians at Givhans Ferry State Park in Ridgeville. Kids 8 and under are free.

Make Monster Slime at the Keith Summey Library in North Charleston at 3:30 p.m.

IOP Easter Egg HuntThe City of Isle of Palms will host this event with photos with the Easter bunny, jump castles, face painting, candy, music and food. The egg hunt will be divided into categories by age from 4-6 p.m. at the Isle of Palms Recreation Center, Isle of Palms.

The Corner Church will host Good Friday at Unity Park (317 Main St., Moncks Corner) at 6 p.m. There will be an Easter egg hunt for the kids, live music, and free food. Bring a lawn chair.

Spring Music on the Green will be held at Freshfields Village from 6-9 p.m. on Kiawah Island. Bring a chair or blanket for this free outdoor event.

Saturday, March 30

Credit One Charleston Open Tennis TournamentThis annual event is the largest women's only tennis tournament in North America and brings some of the top-ranked players from the WTA to the Charleston area for an outstanding fan experience from March 30 - April 7 at Credit One Stadium on Daniel Island. The opening weekend, March 30-31, is fun for families and kids get in free.

Safety DAE will be a day of March Madness Fun from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the College of Charleston TD Arena, with a free throw competition, an all-star game, food, and public safety demonstrations. Register here.

Summerville Baptist Church's Eggventure is a family Easter egg hunt that will take place at John McKissick Field at Memorial Stadium (812 S Magnolia St., Summerville) from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

Goose Creek Easter Egg Hunt will have crafts, games, and pictures with the Easter Bunny from 10 a.m. to noon at Dogwood Park, 460 Liberty Hall Road, Goose Creek. Free for kids ages 8 and under.

Cypress Gardens in Berkeley County hosts an Easter Special Event from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The Easter bunny will be there along with crafts, vendors and food trucks. (Seasonal passes cannot be used for this event.) cypressgardens.berkeleycountysc.gov/events/

The Folly Beach Home and Garden Club is hosting the 16th Annual Easter Promenade at the Folly Beach Community Center at 10:45 a.m. The promenade will start there at 11 a.m. and end at Ashley Ave. All participants - women, men, kids and pets - are invited to wear hats.

Adult Egg HuntThis fun event for those 21 and older lets you relive the joys of your youth by hunting for hidden Easter eggs, many of which contain great prizes from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Firefly Distillery in North Charleston.

Easter Eggstravaganza at the Farmhouse at Kiawah River (2501 Mullet Hall Road, Johns Island) will be at 11 a.m. There will be two egg hunts (separated by age), as well as food trucks, live music, local goods/crafts, and children’s activities. Admission is free.

St. John’s Easter Egg Hunt and Party will take place at St. John’s Lutheran Church (5 Clifford St., Charleston) at 11 a.m. Bring 6 hard-broiled eggs to dye, and your own Easter basket to collect hidden eggs.

Hurricane Coffee Company in Ladson is holding Kids Yoga from 11-11:30 a.m. to let little ones stretch and breathe.

Easter at The Charleston Place will be a special community event from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. with activities for all ages, a build-your-own floral bar, complimentary chocolate eggs, a petting zoo and a special appearance by the Easter Bunny.

An Easter Egg Hunt with the First National Bank of South Carolina will be held at Azalea Park in Summerville from 2-3 p.m.

Crackin Claws Seafood Family Day/Crab Crack will be from 2 to 6 p.m. at Jenkins Youth and Family Village in North Charleston.

Deep River Church of God (8190 Dorchester Road, North Charleston) hosts the River Kidz Easter Extravaganza from 4-6 p.m. with a cook out, egg hunt, and activities for kids.

The South Carolina Stingrays will take on the Greenville Swamp Rabbits at 6:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum. It's also First Responders Night.

A Spring Outdoor Movie on the Village Green will be held at Freshfields Village on Kiawah Island at 8 p.m. with a showing of "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" (the original movie with Gene Wilder).

Sunday, March 31: Easter Sunday

Easter Sunrise Service with Old Saint Andrew's Parish Church will start at 6:15 a.m. at Magnolia Plantation.

Bethany United Methodist Easter Sunrise Service will start at 5 p.m. at Azalea Park in Summerville.

Seacoast Summerville Easter Sunrise Service will be held from 6 -8:30 a.m. at Hutchinson Square in Summerville.

Easter Sunrise Service at East Bay Street in Charleston starts at 6:45 a.m.

Sunrise Church on Sullivan's Island will hold a community sunrise service at 7 a.m. at Breach Inlet.

Easter Eggstravaganza + Waterfront Brunch begins at 10 a.m. at the Salty Dog on Seabrook Island. Easter egg hunts are at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., for children 12 and under.

Easter at Flowertown Charm Farm in Summerville will be from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. with an egg hunt and egg decorating.

Emeline (181 Church St., Charleston) is hosting a special egg hunt from 12-1:30 p.m. that will let kids participate in hunts separated by age, and meet the Easter bunny. Make sure to bring your own basket. Participation is free, but sign up is required and can be made here.

Point Hope Church (3404 Turgot Lane, Mount Pleasant) is hosting an Easter Egg Hunt event from 12-1:30 p.m., with a petting zoo where kids can pet baby chicks, bunnies and goats, and see adoptable puppies from the Charleston Animal Society.

The 5th Annual West Ashley Family Festival is a local small business vendor inspired event from 3-7 p.m. at The Schoolhouse, 720 Magnolia Road in West Ashley.

Monday, April 1

Library events:

  • Storytime at Daniel Island Library will be at 10:30 a.m.
  • Baby Storytime at the John's Island Library will be at 10 a.m.
  • Storytime will be at the Sangaree Library at 10:30 a.m. for ages 0-5.

The Charleston Museum will host a Children's Painting Workshop with local artist Maggie Roof at The Dill Sanctuary on James Island from 10-11:30 a.m. for ages 8-12.

Mad Hatter Tea: will take guests on a delightful journey down the rabbit hole with enchanting decor and delectable treats and an "Alice in Wonderland" theme at Camellia's at Hotel Bennett. The tea will be offered from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., and 2-4 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Reservations required.

Toddler Time will be at the James Island Recreation Complex from 10 a.m.- 12, and at the Daniel Island Rec Center from 9 a.m.- 12, for ages 1-5.

The College of Charleston Orchestra Concert will be from 7:30- 9:30 p.m. at the Sottile Theatre. 

Tuesday, April 2

Library events:

  • Baby storytime will be at the Keith Summey Library in North Charleston at 9:30 a.m.
  • Family storytime will be at John L. Dart Library in Charleston at 9:30 a.m.
  • Storytime will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Goose Creek Library for ages 3-5.
  • Family storytime will be at St. Paul's Library in Hollywood at 10:30 a.m.
  • Family storytime will be at Poe Library on Sullivan's Island at 10:30 a.m.
  • Toddler Time Tuesdays will be at the Sangaree Library in Summerville at 10:30 a.m.

A Mommy and Me Charcuterie Making Class will be held from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Graze Craze in Mount Pleasant. 

Wednesday, April 3

Library events:

  • Baby Storytime will be at the Mount Pleasant Library on Mathis Ferry Road at 9:30 a.m.
  • Toddler Storytime at Dorchester Road Library at 10:30 a.m.
  • Baby Storytime will be at Bees Ferry Library in West Ashley at 10 a.m.
  • Baby Storytime will be at Baxter-Patrick Library on James Island at 10 a.m.
  • Family Storytime at St. Paul's Library in Hollywood will be at 10:30 a.m.
  • Family Storytime will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Cane Bay Library in Summerville.
  • Little Lords and Ladies Tea Party will be at 2 p.m. at Hurd Library in Charleston.
  • The Lego Club will be at the Dorchester Road Library at 3 p.m.

Alice in Wonderland Tea will be held at Camellia's at Hotel Bennett from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., and 2-4 p.m. This will be a delightful journey down the rabbit hole with enchanting decor and treats. Plus, a chance to meet Alice herself.

Entomophiles Workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to Noon at The Dill Sanctuary on James Island for ages 6-12. Hosted by The Charleston Museum, kids can search for insects on a guided bug hunt, craft a glow-in-the-dark firefly, and learn to weave a web like a spider. Museum Workshops offer kids a chance to get hands-on with history and natural history. Reservations required.

The Folly Art Village will be held from 5-9 p.m. at The Washout on Center Street on Folly Beach.

The Sound of Charleston will perform everything from Gospel to Gershwin at 7 p.m. at the Circular Congregational Church, 150 Meeting St. in Charleston. Children 7 and under are free.

Thursday, April 4

Library events:

  • Toddler storytime will be at the Keith Summey Library in North Charleston at 10 a.m.
  • Toddler storytime will be at Bees Ferry Library in West Ashley at 10 a.m.

  • Family storytime will be at Hanahan Library will be at 10:30 a.m. for kids ages 0-5.
  • Family storytime at Moncks Corner Library will be from 10:30-11 a.m. for ages 0-5.

Moncks Corner Farmers Market will be from 3-7 p.m. at the Market Pavilion at the Moncks Corner Regional Recreational Complex, 418 E Main Street, Moncks Corner.

Starlight Yoga will be held at the Mount Pleasant Pier at 7:30 p.m. for ages 12 and up. Register here.
