Orlando International Airport experiences more than 600 delays as thunderstorms roll across the area
REPAIRS CAN BE MADE. MEANWHILE, FLIGHTS WERE STOPPED AND DELAYED ALL DAY LONG AT ORLANDO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TODAY BECAUSE OF SEVERE WEATHER. WESH 2’S PAOLA TRISTAN ARUDA SPOKE TO SOME OF THOSE PASSENGERS AS THEY WAITED FOR UPDATES ON THEIR FLIGHTS. IT WAS A BUSY NIGHT AT ORLANDO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AND WHILE TSA WAIT TIMES WEREN’T AN ISSUE, THUNDERSTORMS CAUSED DELAYS AND CANCELLATIONS FOR DEPARTING AND ARRIVING FLIGHTS. KIM WITT WAITED FOR ABOUT AN HOUR TO SEE HER FRIENDS COME IN FROM MICHIGAN. THEY HAVE BEEN DELAYED AND THEY’RE ON THE RUNWAY RIGHT NOW WAITING TO GET A GATE CLEARANCE. BUT RIGHT NOW THERE’S NO ETA ON A GATE. UM. THEY ARRIVE. THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO LAND 45 MINUTES AGO. FOR HOURS, THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION ISSUED A GROUND STOP FOR THE AIRPORT AND DEPARTURE DELAYS WERE SHOWN TO HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY STAFFING ISSUES AND THE BAD WEATHER. LUCKILY, WITT’S FRIENDS ARRIVED JUST A LITTLE WHILE LATER, ALTHOUGH A BIT TOO LATE FOR THEIR DINNER PLANS. WE GOT IN. WE LANDED A LITTLE LATE, ABOUT TEN MINUTES LATE. IT WAS ABOUT 440 AND WE JUST GOT OFF THE PLANE, SO WE SAT OUT THERE FOR ABOUT AN HOUR, HOUR AND 15 MINUTES. UM, SO LOTS OF TRAFFIC ON THE RUNWAY OUT THERE. PLANES JUST BACKED UP. MORE THAN 600 FLIGHTS WERE DELAYED ON SUNDAY. THAT’S ACCORDING TO FLIGHTAWARE. BUT SOME PEOPLE WE SPOKE TO SAID THEY DON’T MIND THE DELAYS AS IT IS WHAT IT IS. YOU KNOW, YOU GOT TO ROLL WITH IT. I DON’T HAVE MY OWN JET, SO YOU KNOW, YOU JUST YOU GO WITH THE FLOW GUY. CLEMENT WAS IN ORLANDO TO SPEND TIME WITH HIS FAMILY, INCLUDING THIS LITTLE GUY CHASE. ALTHOUGH THEIR FLIGHT BACK HOME TO BUFFALO WAS DELAYED FOR A LITTLE MORE THAN AN HOUR, HE SAYS THIS JUST GIVES THEM A LITTLE BIT MORE TIME WITH THE FAMILY. JUST GET SOMETHING TO EAT AND JUST CHILL OUT. IT’S REST TIME ANYWAYS. IT’S NOT A BIG DEAL AT ORLANDO INTERNATIONAL AI
