One Summer Chicago is accepting applications for its youth summer employment and internship positions.

The six-week program runs from late June to early August, and will match around 28,000 Chicagoans ages 14 to 24 with summer jobs and internships. Participants will work 15 to 20 hours a week and will be paid minimum wage.

This year, Mayor Brandon Johnson allocated more than $75 million for the program, $11 million more than last year, which created an additional 4,000 positions.

"I know it's an ambitious goal, but I've made a commitment to doubling the amount of employment opportunities for the children in the City of Chicago and One Summer Chicago is a very crucial program in helping us secure a pathway to reach that goal," Johnson said during an announcement at Dyett High School earlier this month.

Job opportunities range from tech companies to hospitals to restaurants.

Previous corporate and community partners where youth have worked have included Black Ensemble Theater, Chicago Harbors, the DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center, the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Woodlawn Animal Hospital.

Applications can be submitted through May 2 and are available at onesummerchicago.org.
