State University of New York System officials announced Wednesday the rescinding of an appointment for UHV Provost Chance Glenn to lead Buffalo State University.

Bonita Durand, interim president of Buffalo State University, agreed to lead the campus through the 2025-26 academic year until a new president is appointed, according to a news release issued by the university system.

“We are grateful for Dr. Durand’s wisdom and service. As interim president, Dr. Durand has provided seamless leadership in enhancing student success and moving the campus toward financial sustainability,” SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr. said in the release. “I am grateful that Dr. Durand will continue implementing that work, which will also allow time for a full search for the next campus president.”

Glenn declined to comment Wednesday. UHV officials could not be reached.

Previously, the university system’s board of trustees had announced Glenn as the 10th president of Buffalo State University.

Glenn received his bachelor of science in electrical engineering from the University of Maryland and his master of science and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Johns Hopkins University, according to that announcement. He also holds a certificate in management development from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

On March 1, University of Houston-Victoria Faculty Council members unanimously said in a document they wanted an interim provost appointed after questions arose about potential conflicts of interest, double standards and a research grant proposal by Glenn.

“(A no-confidence vote) should not be used as a weapon of revenge and retaliation by aggrieved members of the faculty in order to damage the reputation of the subject of it,” Glenn said previously.

Glenn said he believes some faculty were spending an “unhealthy” use of faculty, staff and administrators’ time and that there were “more important issues that the university must address.”

“I can only speculate on the reasons that are driving the complainant to expend such time and effort on this crusade,” Glenn said.
