Wife of Iredell County double murder suspect killed by deputies arrested: Sheriff

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The wife of a man killed by deputies in an officer-involved shooting near Mooresville has been arrested after allowing juveniles inside her home with access to firearms during the standoff, according to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

Ashlee Louise Klepfer, 40, is the wife of the man who deputies said killed two people and was later killed by authorities following an hours-long standoff on Sunday, March 10.

Evidence led investigators to believe Klepfer had some involvement in helping her husband, 39-year-old Justin Strawther, after the homicides were committed, officials said.

It was determined she also allowed four juveniles inside her home along Ostwalt Amity Road to have access to firearms during the standoff.

On Tuesday, March 12, investigators received warrants for Klepfer’s arrest. Deputies arrested her during a traffic stop in Statesville, where she was with a 15-year-old boy with a loaded handgun and methamphetamine.

Authorities said the juvenile was taken into custody, and a secure custody order was issued by the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Klepfer was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center and charged with:

  • Felony accessory after the fact

  • Felony possession of methamphetamine

  • Possession with intent to sell or deliver methamphetamine

  • Misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia

  • Misdemeanor possession of schedule II controlled substance

  • 5 counts of misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor

  • 4 counts of misdemeanor failure to secure a firearm from a minor

Klepfer is being held without bond after she was out of jail on bond for a previous school attendance law violation charge.

The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the incident from March 10 and said more suspects could be charged in this case.
