One person was killed Saturday night in Fremont in an automobile accident on southbound I-880, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The call came into the CHP at 8:38 p.m. for an incident north of Mowry Avenue.

“A witness reported a vehicle traveled off the roadway and collided with a tree or a wall. It’s not clarified yet, but it may have struck another vehicle. It doesn’t sound like anything major to the other vehicle — they kept driving and then returned to the scene,” CHP’s Officer Andrew Barclay said.

At least two vehicles were involved in the incident, Barclay said, including a white sedan and a blue Toyota Prius. Early information put the driver in the fatal accident in the white sedan.

A Doppler scan showed rain above Fremont at the time, but it’s uncertain whether weather had any role in the accident. A storm that brought rain and small hail to the Bay Area on Saturday caused several spin-outs and accidents on area roadways.
