Tragedy struck on Summerfield Road in Santa Rosa when a 56-year-old pedestrian was hit by a vehicle, suffering significant injuries, early yesterday morning. Officers from the Santa Rosa Police Department, alongside emergency medical personnel, rushed to the scene near Parktrail Drive at around 7:13 a.m., responding to the harrowing incident.

The victim, a local resident, was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital and is reported to be in critical but stable condition. The area was cordoned off for an extended period, with Parktrail Drive being closed for about three hours as an investigation ensued, and officers scoured the scene for evidence.

According to the Santa Rosa Police Department's initial assessment, the pedestrian was within the boundaries of the crosswalk at the collision's moment. The vehicle involved was operated by a 79-year-old woman, also from Santa Rosa, who remained at the scene after pulling over and contacting authorities. Sgt. Tanya Potter from the SRPD stated there's currently no evidence to suggest impairment due to alcohol or drugs was a factor in the accident.

While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, authorities are calling on any witnesses to step forward with information.
