Victim killed in wrong-way crash following police pursuit Tuesday identified

(KRON) — A victim who died in a wrong-way collision with a pickup truck involved in a police pursuit earlier this week has been identified by officials. Lee David Weiner was driving a gray BMW headed westbound on I-580 when his vehicle was involved in a three-car crash with the suspect vehicle and a white utility van.

Weiner, who was a 57-year-old Lafayette resident according to the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two suspects in the white pickup truck, identified as Patrick Sheckells, 34, of Oakland and Andre Alberty, 56, of San Francisco sustained major injuries. The two men were allegedly involved in a commercial burglary at Tobacco Outlet in El Cerrito prior to the crash, which occurred around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The occupant of the white utility van, who has not been identified, also suffered major injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol.
