Jon Hamm says the new Taylor Sheridan drama Landman is “halfway through” filming. News of the Sheridan-created project, which features Hamm alongside Demi Moore and Billy Bob Thornton, first made headlines last month.
“We’re already halfway through it,” Hamm told People this week. “It’s Taylor Sheridan and obviously it’s very well written. It’s very well-researched.”
Landman is Sheridan’s latest project at Paramount+, which includes his flagship Yellowstone (currently filming its final season), spinoffs 1923 and 1883 and, separately, Special Ops: Lioness, Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King and Lawmen: Bass Reeves.

The new drama is adapted from the 11-part podcast Boomtown and is “an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling an [oil boom] so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics,” a description reads. Sheridan shares creator credits with Christian Wallace.
“It’s based on oil speculators and what they called landmen, which are the guys that run around and try to acquire mineral rights and land rights in the hope of speculating and finding oil,” Hamm said this week. “There’s a lot of oil under the ground here in Texas and they are constantly trying to find it.”
Hamm will play Monty Miller, a titan of the Texas oil industry who has a long personal and professional relationship with Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton). Moore will play Cami, the wife of another powerful oil man in Texas and a friend of Norris.
He added, “It’s a story very well told, and I think it’s an interesting take on what happens when it comes to how we get the stuff that makes our cars and our lives and our planes and everything in our modern world go.”
The Mad Men star also had nothing but good things to say about his co-stars. He said, “It’s got Billy Bob Thornton and Demi Moore, so it’s a tremendous cast and it’s been super fun to work on.”
