Attorney General Merrick Garland and Justice Department senior leadership held a news conference on an antitrust lawsuit against Apple. He and the other officials alleged that the tech company engages in monopolistic and illegal business practices, such as degrading the functionality of non-Apple apps and accessories, thereby hurting consumers and developers alike. The Justice Department was joined by 15 states and the District of Columbia in the lawsuit. Moreover, the attorney general responded to a reporter’s question about criticisms from the White House on how he oversaw special counsel Robert Hur’s report, amid Mr. Hur’s comments about President Biden’s mental acuity. Mr. Garland responded that the notion of censoring a special counsel was “absurd,” and that President Biden wants a Justice Department that is independent. close
