UPDATE 3/27/2024: The Lebanon Police Department has released the identity of a man killed at Detroit Tool Metal Products (DTMP) on March 26.

LPD says the employee was 49-year-old Jeremiah Beckley of Lebanon.

Original story:

LEBANON, Mo. — An employee with Detroit Tool Metal Products (DTMP) was found dead at its Lebanon facility, according to the Lebanon Police Department.

“When crews arrived, they found one employee on the floor with a large metal spool on top of him,” said Interim Lebanon Police Chief Matthew Wright.

Lebanon police say that on Tuesday, March 26 at around 10:30 a.m., they got a call about a medical emergency at the DTMP facility on Bethel Road. The report said an employee was discovered on the floor crushed by a 1,000-pound coil of metal.

The employee was later declared dead by Laclede County Coroner Steve Murrell.

The Lebanon Fire Department, Police Department, and Mercy Ambulance arrived minutes within minutes of the call, but Wright says there was nothing more they could have done when they arrived on the scene.

“It does look like an accident this time. We have OSHA coming in to give us a determination and findings of the events that surrounded this death,” Wright said. “It really determines from case to case. But we look at this, the actions and the equipment surrounding the employee and trying to determine what was at fault there.”

Officials with the DTMP are working with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Lebanon Police Department in an investigation of what caused the incident.

The identity of the employee is not being revealed at this time until all members of their family have been notified, but officials do plan to reveal the identity of the man who died sometime Wednesday.
